BRISTOL, TENN. – Amber Lau had the game high 21-points to lead the Coker women's basketball team past the King Tornado (12-12, 8-12) on Saturday (Feb. 23) by a score of 73-65.  The win improves the Cobras to an overall record of 16-10, and a conference record of 12-8. 

In the early minutes of the first half, Coker went on an 11-0 run to lead King by a score of 19-12.  The Tornado however battle back and took a one-point lead with just under ten minutes remaining.  In that time, Coker outscored King 22-10 to take a secure 41-30 lead into the locker room.

Coker extended their lead to 20-points within the first five minutes of the second half, but it was quickly narrowed to a 55-47 lead after the Tornado went on a 15-3 run. 

Back-to-back turnovers by King followed by transition buckets, allowed Coker to regain a ten-point led.  Both teams continued to exchange buckets late in the second half, but the deficit was too much for the Tornado to overcome. 

As a team the Cobras shot 56-percent (30-for-53) from the floor, along with nearly 39-percent (7-of-18) from deep.  Coker scored 32-of-73 points in the paint, and contributed 27-bench points to the scoreboard.

Autumn Lau was second on the team in scoring with 16-points, with a team high six rebounds.  Sophomore guard Angie Lawrence contributed 13-points, while Heidrun Kristmundsdottir had the game high three steals. 

Coker will return home for a Conference Carolinas match on Tuesday (Feb. 26) to face Queens University of Charlotte.  The game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
