Lau, Lawrence Shoot Cobras Past Trojans

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Autumn Lau had the game high 27-points to lead the Coker women's basketball team to a 66-63 win over the Mount Olive Trojans (13-8, 9-8) on Wednesday (Feb. 13) night in a Conference Carolinas competition.  With the win the Cobras improve to 13-10 on the year and 9-8 in conference play.

Mount Olive jumped out to a 14-7 lead early in the first half.  But thanks to 44-percent shooting from deep, the Cobras went on a 10-2 run to end the half and capture a 33-29 lead heading into the break.

Coker continued their offensive surge into the beginning minutes of the second half, and sparked a 7-2 run.  The Trojans however, battled back and made it a one-point game with 12-minutes remaining in regulation.

Both teams would exchange buckets, but Coker held onto the lead as the clock ticked closer to zero.  In the last minute, the Trojans were forced to foul sending the Cobras to the line.  Clutch free throw shooting would then preserve the win for Coker.

Angie Lawrence was second on the team in scoring with 18-points.  Lawrence also grabbed down seven boards and tallied four assists.  Lau had a game tying three blocks and five rebounds, while Priscilla Fenty had a team high seven rebounds.

As a team the Cobras shot nearly 43-percent (6-of-14) from deep, and hit 83-percent  (20-of-24) from the charity stripe.  The Cobras came up with 35-rebounds and scored 26-points off of turnovers.

Coker will return home on Saturday (Feb. 16) to face Converse College.  The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
