Second Half Surge Lifts Belmont Abbey Over Coker

BELMONT, N.C. – Autumn Lau scored 29 points for the Cobras in their 70-65 loss to Belmont Abbey on Thursday (Jan. 31) night in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action. The loss drops Coker to 11-8 overall and 7-6 in league play.

It was a tale of two halves; as the Cobras came out of the gate hot, taking a 41-26 lead into halftime, but a second half surge by Belmont Abbey gave the Crusaders a 70-65 victory. As a team the Cobras shot 35.3 percent from the field and were hit 9-of-10 (90 percent) from the free throw line. Coker out rebounded the Crusaders 43-41 and they scored 16 points off of turnovers. 

Lau was the leading scorer with 29 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two assists. Amber Lau netted 13 points with three rebounds, two blocks and two assists and Angie Lawrence added 10 points, three steals and two assists.

The Cobras will be back on the road for their next game on Saturday at Erskine College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
