Royals Trump Cobras, 86-71

CHARLOTTE, NC. – The Coker women's basketball team lost 86-71 to Queens (7-5, 5-3) University of Charlotte on Wednesday (Jan. 16) night in a Conference Carolinas competition.  The loss drops the Cobras to 9-6 on the year, and 5-4 in league play.

The Cobras stumbled in the first half, and quickly found themselves down 12-6 in the early minutes.  Coker responded by going on a 10-4 run and tied the game at 16 with ten minutes before the break.  The game would remain close, however Queens took a 40-34 advantage into the locker room.

Both teams exchanged buckets to start the second half, but late offensive mishaps from Coker led to turnovers in favor of Queens.  The Royals were then able to separate and expand their lead to into double-digits.

Autumn Lau led the Cobras in scoring with 24-points.  Lau also had five rebounds and two blocks.  Sophomore guard Angie Lawrence was second in scoring with 14-points.  Lawrence shot 50-percent from the floor, and led the team with three steals.

Coker will return home this Saturday (Jan. 19) to face Lees-McRae.  The game is set for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
