Cobras Excel Past Bobcats with 77-58 Victory

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Coker women's basketball team collected their fourth win of the season on Saturday (Dec. 1) afternoon, as they defeated Lees-McRae College 77-58 in a Conference Carolinas competition.  With the win the Cobras improve to 4-1 overall, and 2-1 in conference play.

The Cobras came out firing, and never looked back.  Amber Laus' 27-points in the first half helped fuel a commanding 63-29 first half lead for the Cobras.  The dominating performance continued, as Coker built a 40-point lead just four minutes into the second half.

Three of Coker's five starters earned double-digit scoring figures.  Sophomore guard Angie Lawrence had a season high 18-points for the Cobras.  She also collected six rebounds, and dished out a team high five assist.  Hailey Yohn tallied 13-points, and Lau finished with a game high 29-points.

As a team, Coker shot 47-percent (26-of-55) from the floor and 40-percent (11-of-27) from beyond the arc.  They also knocked down 14-of-17 free throws (82-percent).

An offensive burst from the Bobcats, kept the score within reach for Lees-McRae as the game clock continued to dwindle.  The deficit however, was too much for the Bobcats as the Cobras held all but one Lees-McRae scorers to single-digits.  Priscilla Fenty led the defensive stand with 10 rebounds.

The Cobras will be looking to extend their win streak to three on Monday (Dec. 3), as they travel to face their local rivals of Francis Marion.  The game is scheduled for a 6 PM tip-off.
