Cobras Cruise Past Converse With 68-49 Victory

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --  Amber Lau had a game high 27-points to lead the Coker women's basketball team past Converse with a 68-49 win on Tuesday (Nov. 27) evening.  With the win the Cobras improve to 3-1 overall, and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas play.

It was a defensive clinic during the first 20-minutes of action, as the Cobras held the Valkyries to just 14 first half points.

The Coker offense did it's part as well and quickly went on the attack with a 12-0 run to start the first four minutes of the game.  The Cobras then ended the first half with a 12-2 run to take a comfortable 43-14 lead into the locker room.

The Cobras shot nearly 61-percent (17-of-28) from the floor in the first half, including 62-percent (5-of-8) from three point range.   Coker outrebounded the Valkyries 26 to 11.

Coker proved to be too strong for Converse to make a comeback in the second half. Priscilla Fenty had a double-double performance with 12 boards and 18-points.  Along with Lau and Fenty, Hailey Yohn reached double-digit points after dropping 6-of-8 field goals and totaling 14-points.

As a team, the Cobras shot 40-percent from the floor (27-of-67), and 66-percent (8-of-12) from the free throw line.  Coker also scored 17-points off of 18 turnovers, and snagged down 45 rebounds.

Coker will continue their road play, as they travel to face Lees-McRae in a Conference Carolinas match up on December 1.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
