Lau Helps Cobras Overthrow Royals, 71-68

HARTSVILLE, SC – Junior Amber Lau (Mt. Wolfe, Pa.) racked up 37 points for the Cobras as they were able to hold off the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte, 71-68. 

The first half started quick for Coker as they took a 12-4 lead, but the Royals were able to hold the Cobras to just 29 points in the first half, taking a 38-29 lead into halftime. 

Coker's offense found its groove in the second, as Coker outscored the Royals 42-30.  Lau scored 23 of her 37 in the second half to lead the Cobras to victory.

In addition to Lau's 37, Kelley Godbout (Matthews, N.C.) had eight points. Three different Cobras dished out four assists a piece including, senior Jasmine Alston (Sumter, S.C.), freshman Heidrun Kristmundsdottir (Fludir, Iceland), and freshman Hailey Yohn (Mathews, N.C.).  Junior Jessica Cohen (Ladsen, S.C.) was the leading rebounder with nine.

Coker's record improved to 10-6 in conference play. The win clinched the #3 seed in the East Division for the Cobras. The Cobras still have one more regular season game left. Their next game will be on Friday, February 24, at Pfeiffer. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Regardless of the outcome of their final game on Friday the Cobras will travel to North Greenville University on Monday for the opening round of the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Tournament.
