Bulldogs Hold Off Cobras, 72-68

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Junior Jessica Cohen  (Ladsen, S.C.) scored a game high 24 points, while classmate Amber Lau (Mt. Wolfe, Pa.) scored 20 points with nine rebounds, but it was not enough to lead the Cobra women's basketball team to a win. The Cobras came up just short against Barton College, losing 72-68 to the Conference Carolinas foe on Thursday night.

Coker trailed the Bulldogs for the majority of the first half, including taking a 20-17 lead with nine minutes remaining in the half. The Cobras then slithered ahead with a 10-0 run and eventually took a 35-29 lead into the locker room at the break.

Barton came out firing on all cylinders, as they opened the second half with a 12-4 run to take the lead. The Cobras took their final lead of the game with a three-pointer by Lau with 14:56, but the Bulldogs scored 11 consecutive points to regain the lead.

Coker used a 17-8 run in the final five minutes of play cutting what once was a 13-point Bulldog lead to just five points. A deep three-pointer by freshman Heidrun Kristmundsdottir (Fludir, Iceland) in the final seconds pulled Coker to within two points, but a pair of free throws by Jannetta Robinson sealed the Barton victory.

Robinson led the Bulldogs with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Jolanda Mitchell had 17 points and six rebounds. Also scoring in double figures was Shante Neal with 13 points.

In addition to Cohen and Lau's performances, Kelley Godbout (Matthews, N.C.) added seven points and five rebounds and Kenley Perry (Bedford, Ind.) had six points and four rebounds.

Coker is back on the floor on Saturday on the road at Erskine College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
