UNC Pembroke Defeats Coker 62-49

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Senior Jasmine Alston (Sumter, S.C.) posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough to led the Cobras to victory as they fell to UNC Pembroke 62-49 on Tuesday night in women's collegiate basketball.

The Cobras jumped out an early lead with a 15-4 run to start the game, but the Braves battled their way back to even things at 23 heading into halftime thanks to a 10-2 run in the final five minutes.

UNCP then used a strong second half to take home the victory as they held Coker to just 26 points, while scoring 39 of their own.

Hailey Yohn (Durham, N.C.) and Amber Lau (Mt. Wolfe, Pa.) both scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively to compliment Alston's performance for the Cobras.

Leading the Braves was DeDe Cotten with 13 points and five rebounds, while Jasmine Hairston and Domonique Washington added 12 points each to the Pembroke attack. Hairston was the Braves rebounding leader with seven boards and Washington pulled down five. 

The Cobra women will return to the floor on Saturday at Fayetteville State. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
