Cobras Fall to Lynn 90-74

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's basketball team opened regular season play on Saturday with a disappointing 90-74 loss to Lynn University. Junior Amber Lau (Mt. Wolfe, Pa.) was the Cobras leading scorer with 25 points and five rebounds.

The Cobras got off to a great start leading by as much as 22 points in the opening half, while holding the Fighting Knights to just seven baskets from the field. However, foul trouble got the best of Coker as they sent Lynn to the line 41 times during the first half, leading to 27 points.

Coker clung to a narrow 42-40 lead at the half, but Lynn came out of the break ready to play as they posted 50 points in the second half and held the Cobras to just 32.

A foul heavy game, there were 66 total fouls called between both teams resulting in a combined 51 points.

Coker's Kelley Godbout (Matthews, N.C.) and Jessica Cohen (Landsen, S.C.) each scored in double figures and pulled down six rebounds. Cohen had 13 points, while Godbout had 11.

Kira Harvey was the Knights leading scorer with 26 points, while Marquis Lee had 21 points with six rebounds. Also posting double-digit scoring numbers was Ashlee Ferguson with 16 points.

The Cobras will return to the floor on Tuesday when they host the Braves of UNC Pembroke in a non-conference game at 5:30 p.m. at the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium.
