HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Coker College women's basketball team has been picked 10th in the Conference Carolinas Preseason Poll released Tuesday. Voted on by the coaches, Barton College received the top spot in the poll, with Limestone College in second and Mount Olive College in third.
The new and improved Coker women's team will take to the floor for the 2011-12 season, featuring 10 new players, including four transfers and six freshmen. The Cobras have one lone senior, Jasmine Alston (Sumter, S.C.). The senior guard was the team's leading scoring last season with 13.3 points per game and she set a new single game scoring record with 47 points scored in the Cobras final game of the season against Lees-McRae.
Last season the Cobras were 5-21 overall and 5-15 in conference play under the direction of head coach Jenny Finora. As they begin their second year under Finora's leadership the future looks very bright for this young group of players.
The Cobra women will take the court in their first action of the season on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2:00 p.m. in an exhibition game against the University of Kentucky. In a homecoming game for Coach Finora, a guard for the Wildcats (2003-07), the Cobras will face a Kentucky team that finished the 2010-11 season with a record of 25-9 and reached the second round of the NCAA Touranment.
