University of Kentucky Game Highlights the 2011-12 Coker Women's Basketball Schedule
The Coker College women’s basketball team released their 2011-12 schedule on Tuesday that includes two Division I games and a trip to Louisville, Ky. for the Bellarmine University Thanksgiving Classic.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's basketball team released their 2011-12 schedule on Tuesday that includes two Division I games and a trip to Louisville, Ky. for the Bellarmine University Thanksgiving Classic.
The Cobra women, who finished last season at 5-21, will open the year with a homecoming for head coach Jenny Finora. Coker will travel the Finora's alma mater the University of Kentucky for an exhibition game against the Wildcats on Nov. 6. UK, which finished the 2010-11 season with a record of 25-9, reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
Finora, entering her second season as the head coach of the Cobras, was a guard for the Wildcats (2003-07). She holds the record for free throw shooting percentage (86.0), while ranking third all-time in three pointers (162) in her career at UK.
In addition to Coker's exhibition game against UK, the Cobras will also take on Division I Coastal Carolina University on Nov. 30. The Chanticleers where 10-19 last season, including a 78-25 win over the Cobras.
Another highlight of the 11-12 schedule is a trip to Louisville, Ky. to play at the Bellarmine University Thanksgiving Classic. The Cobras will take on the host Knights on Nov. 26 and the University of Southern Indiana on Nov. 27.
In all Coker has nine non-conference games and 17 Conference Carolinas games slated for the 11-12 schedule.
This year will be the first year of divisional play in Conference Carolinas. Coker will play in the east division with Barton College, Mount Olive College, Pfeiffer University, Queens University of Charlotte and St. Andrews Presbyterian College. The Cobras will face each team in the division twice, once at home and once on the road, while taking each team in the west division once.
