MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – A dominating first half by the Mount Olive Trojans women’s basketball team was too much for the Coker women to overcome in their 69-45 loss to Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action.

The Cobras were led by a pair of guards, Jasmine Alston (Sumter, S.C.) and Lucy Fish (Nottingham, England). Alston had a team high 15 points and eight rebounds, while Fish scored nine of her 11 from beyond the arc.

The Trojans came out with a strong first half showing, putting up 46 points including going on a 21-8 run down the final 10 minutes giving them a 46-28 lead at the break.

Coker had a better second half holding the Trojans to just 23 points, while scoring 17 of their own, but the first half lead was too great to overcome.

Jasmine Whitby led the Mount Olive attack with a 15 point 10 rebound double-double, while Jessica Helms netted 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Brittany Miller was a force on the glass with 10 rebounds for the Trojans.

Adding to the Coker offense was Megan Thomas (Cresskill, N.J.) with nine points and Ashley Thompson (Columbia, S.C.) pulled down seven rebounds.

The Cobras will return to the floor after a week-long break when they host the Bobcats of Lees-McRae on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium.
