Hartsville, S.C. – In their second straight upset of the week, the Coker Lady Cobras Basketball team stunned the Belmont Abbey Crusaders with a 75-72 win on Saturday afternoon. The Abbey, currently third in the Conference Carolinas standings, became the second top three team in the conference to fall at the hands of the Lady Cobras, the first being Barton on Wednesday night and with the win Coker improves to 8-12 overall, and 7-8 in the conference, moving them into eighth place, while the loss drops the Crusaders to 13-7 overall, and 11-4 in the conference.

Coker was down by four points at halftime and behind the play of senior Jessica Hayes (Beaufort, SC) and junior Henna Koponen (Vantaa, Finland) the Lady Cobras out-scored the Crusaders 47-40 to take home the victory.

Koponen had a game high 23 points, with 21 of those coming in the second half, with seven rebounds, while Hayes had 21 points and seven rebounds. Lotta Aaltonen (Rauma, Finland) was the only other Lady Cobra is double figures with 10 points and nine rebounds.

For the Abbey, Shayla Jackson had 22 points, while Courtney Naquin dropped in 17 points and Asha Hardaway pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Lady Cobras return to the floor on Monday when they travel to St. Andrews for a 5:30 p.m. game.
