Hartsville, S.C. – The Coker Lady Cobras over came a three point halftime deficit on their way to their third straight Conference Carolinas win of the season, as they defeated the Pfeiffer Falcons 82-77 on Saturday afternoon in women’s collegiate basketball. Henna Koponen (Vantaa, Finland) and Kiesha Beavers (Williamstown, NJ) were the driving forces behind the Coker win with 18 and 17 points respectively.

Coker (4-6, 3-2 Conf. Carolinas) was able to take advantage of 25 Pfeiffer (1-9, 1-4 Conf. Carolinas) turnovers, converting them in to 20 points, while the Lady Falcons only managed seven points off 16 Lady Cobra turnovers. Another major key to the Coker victory was the Lady Cobras success at the free throw line, as Coker shot 75 percent from the charity stripe, scoring 27 points, compared to Pfeiffer’s mere eight points from the line.

Pfeiffer did hold out rebound the Lady Cobras 46-39, while out scoring Coker from beyond the arc, 27 points to 15 points. In a game that saw 14 lead changes and eight ties, it was the little things that made the big difference in the end.

Along with Koponen and Beavers, Lotta Aaltonen (Rauma, Finland) and Megan Thomas (Cresskill, NJ) each scored 12 points, with Aaltonen pulling down a team high eight rebounds, dishing out four assists and picking off four steals. Thomas scored half her points from the charity stripe, going a perfect six for six from the line. Koponen grabbed seven rebounds and Beavers had three steals.

Pfeiffer was lead by Allegra Shanee Purnell off the bench with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Jessica Walter had 14 points and three steals. Also scoring in double figures were Jamila Harris and Kelly Mathis with 11 and 10 points respectively. Another key member of the Lady Falcons in the game was Devona Knight, as she controlled the Pfeiffer game, scoring eight points with 13 rebounds and six assists.

Coker will look to continue their winning ways next week as they travel to Converse on Wednesday, for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off, while Pfeiffer’s next game is also on Wednesday, when they host Mount Olive at 5:30 p.m.
