Hartsville, SC- The Coker College Lady Cobras were easily defeated by the Mount Olive Lady Trojans on Thursday night by a score of 83-54. The loss drops the Lady Cobras to 5-18 overall, and 4-12 in Conference Carolinas play, while Mount Olive improves to 14-9 overall, and 12-4 in conference play.

Coker joined more than 900 other colleges across the country by wearing pink warm-up shirts before the game in honor the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) “Think Pink” initiative to raise money and awareness for Kay Yow/ Breast Cancer Fund. 

Mount Olive jumped out to an early 20 point lead in the first half and never looked back. The Lady Trojans out shot Coker 48.5 percent from the floor to 35.8 percent, while shooting 50 percent from the charity stripe, compared to the Lady Cobras 41.9 percent. Mount Olive held a slight advantage on the boards, collecting 41 rebounds to Coker’s 37.

Henna Koponen (Vantaa, Finland) was the Lady Cobras scoring leader with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Rebecca Kolbeck (Santa Paula, CA) chipped in 11 points with five rebounds.

For the Lady Trojans, Lakeisha Monroe was the game’s high scorer with 20 points, four rebounds and four steals, while Helen Moore had 12 points with seven rebounds. Keona Corley and Shequanta McGee each had 10 points with three rebounds, while Corley had four steals and McGee had three.

Coker returns to the floor on Saturday, as they travel to Pfeiffer University and Mount Olive travels to Erskine College. Both games tip-off at 2:00 p.m.
