Due West, SC- The Coker Lady Cobras Basketball team was unable to pick up their fifth Conference Carolinas victory of the season, as they lost 71-64 to the Erskine Flying Fleet on Thursday evening. The loss drops Coker to 5-17 overall, and 4-11 in the conference.

Even though Coker held the advantage in several statistical categories, they were unable to bring home the win. The Lady Cobras committed seven less turnovers, 10 to 17, had 20 points off the bench to Erskine’s nine. It was the Flying Fleet that had the stats that really counted, out shooting Coker 47.2 percent from the floor to 43.5 percent, while shooting 72.7 percent from the charity stripe, compared to Coker’s 47.1 percent.

Leading the Cobras were Temeca Spain (Conway, SC) and Henna Koponen (Vantaa, Finland). Spain had 15 points with nine rebounds and Koponen had 14 points and four rebounds.

The Fleet’s Karen Anger led all scorers with 17 points and five rebounds, while Audrey Timmerman had 16 points with five rebounds. Kristy Vaughn had the only double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.

Coker returns to the floor in a week, as they take on Mount Olive in their “Think Pink” game at 5:30 p.m. at Coker’s Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium.
