Hartsville, SC- In their biggest win of the season the Lady Cobras of Coker College defeated the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey 85-62 on Saturday, afternoon in women’s collegiate basketball. The win improves the Lady Cobras to 5-16 overall and 4-10 in Conference Carolinas play, while the Crusaders fall to 14-5 overall, and 9-4 in the conference.

The Lady Cobras had all 10 players get on the board scoring at least one point, while four players scored in double figures, compared to Belmont Abbey’s one. Coker dominated the glass, picking up 39 rebounds compared to the Abbey’s 27 and the Cobras out shot the Crusaders, 58.9 percent from the floor to 37.1 percent.

Leading the offensive for Coker was the Finland connection of Henna Koponen (Vantaa, Finland) and Lotta Aaltonen (Rauma, Finland). Koponen had a team high 20 points and three rebounds, while Aaltonen had 18 points and seven rebounds. Temeca Spain (Conway, SC) picked up a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Kenya McCarthan (Hardeeville, SC) came off the bench and scored 12 points with five rebounds for Coker.

For Belmont Abbey, Marie Marquez was a game high scorer with 29 points and five rebounds, while Asha Hardaway had eight points and two rebounds and Courtney Naquin and Kelsey Daniel each had six points.

Coker gets a much needed break for a few days, as they do not return to the floor until Thursday, as they travel to Due West, SC, to take on Erskine at 5:30 p.m.
