Hartsville, SC- Day one of the first ever Lady Cobra Classic women’s basketball tournament was full of excitement. In game one Francis Marion University (5-1) topped Converse College (1-8) 101-41, while in game two host Coker College (1-7) earned their first win of the season, as they defeated Chowan University (2-7) 59-52.

In the first game, Brittany young led all scorers with a 19 point showing for the Patriots, while Creshenda Singletary had 15 points and four rebounds. Shannon Singleton-Bates and Yasmean Dixon each netted 14 points for FMU, with Singleton-Bates grabbing six rebounds and Dixon hauling in four boards.

For Converse, Shai Walker had 12 points and four rebounds, while Morgan Sacharski had 10 points and six rebounds.

In game two Temeca Spain posted a double-double for the Lady Cobras with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Henna Koponen had a game high 21 points with five rebounds. Lotta Aaltonen added some double figures of her own with 11 points and five rebounds.

For the Hawks of Chowan, Brittany Nicholson had 15 points and three rebounds, and AJ O’Banion had 14 points and five rebounds.

The Lady Cobra Classic concludes on Saturday, with Chowan and Converse squaring off at 2:00 p.m. and cross-town rivals Coker and Francis Marion tipping-off at 4:00 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live via the internet and can be seen by visiting www.conferencecarolinas.tv.
