Hartsville, SC- In their first game in Conference Carolinas play, the Coker College women’s basketball team took a tough loss to the conference favorite Anderson University, 74-60. The loss drops the Cobras to 0-3 overall, and 0-1 in the conference, while Anderson improves to 2-0 overall, and 1-0 in the conference.

Anderson showed why they are picked to be first in the conference with some superb shooting, going 25-for-42 from the field for a 59.5 shooting percentage, while Coker shot just 41.8 percent from the field.

Anderson’s newest member, transfer Nikki Anthony (Pickens, SC) had a dominating first half scoring 12 of her 14 points, with nine of her 13 rebounds also coming in the first. However, in the second half it was all Coker’s Temeca Spain (Conway, SC) as she poured in 12 of her game high 20 points with five of nine total rebounds.

Spain had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead Coker, while Rebecca Kolbeck (Santa Paula, CA) had 16 points and Henna Koponen (Vantaa, Finland) had 14 points and five rebounds.

For Anderson, Keana Boyd (Newberry, SC) had 16 points, while Anthony had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Genia Holbrook (Tocca, GA) had 13 points and seven rebounds.

Coker returns to the floor on Sunday, November 25, as they travel to USC-Aiken, while Anderson will host Converse on Monday, November 26.
