Hartsville, SC- In a Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference battle, it was the first Place Bulldogs of Barton College that came out on top of a 71-61 victory over Coker College on Monday night in women’s collegiate basketball. With the win Barton improves to 15-3 overall, and 11-1 in the CVAC, while the Lady Cobras fall to 4-15 overall, and 2-10 in the CVAC.

 

The first half of the saw both teams struggle with their shooting, as Coker shot just 36 percent, and Barton shot 41.2 percent. Things improved in the second as both teams shot nearly 50 percent, but the turning point of the game came in turnovers. There were a combined total of 36 turnovers in the game leading to 29 points.

 

Coker was led by India Elliot with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Henna Koponen finished with 11 points and five rebounds, while Lotta Aaltonen and Tara nelson each scored 10 points. Aaltonen pulled down four rebounds, while Nelson grabbed six.

 

Leading the Bulldogs was Jo Denevan with a game high 28 points and seven rebounds. Esty Flores had 15 points, six assists and two rebounds, while Kendra Thomas had 10 points with four rebounds.

 

Coker returns to the floor on Thursday, as they travel to Mount Olive for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off, while Barton hosts St. Andrews.
