DUE WEST, SC- Erskine College used key shooting from the charity stripe down the stretch to and had four players in double figures to secure a 61-55 Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference victory Monday night at Belk Arena.

 

In all, the Fleet connected on 19-of-22 (86.4 percent) foul shots, including going 7-of -8 down the stretch to ice the game. Freshman guard Audrey Timmerman (Aiken, SC) connected on 5-of-6 of those free throw attempts and finished 13 points.

 

Timmerman’s three-pointer with 2:03 remaining gave the Fleet a 52-50 lead that they never relinquished. Timmerman was joined in double figures by Lisa Jackson (Greenville, SC) and Kristy Vaughn (Yadkinville, NC) who added 13 points apiece. Mary Ann Langford (LaGrange, GA) rounded out the Fleet in double figures with 12 points on the evening.

 

The Fleet outscored Coker 19-7 from the charity stripe and shot 37.3 percent from the field for the game. Coker connected on 38.3 percent of its shots from the field and was led by forward Henna Koponen who finished the contest with 17 points.

 

Erskine improves to 2-6 on the season and 2-3 in CVAC play, while Coker drops to 3-8 and 0-4 in CVAC action. The Fleet will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 11 with a 5:30 p.m. game at Pfeiffer. Coker is also back in action on Thursday hosting Mount Olive at 5:30 p.m.
