Hartsville, SC- The Coker Lady Cobras pulled out the closest win of the season, as they won their first CVAC contest of the year defeating Queens University 56-52 on Saturday afternoon in collegiate basketball. Coker (3-7, 1-2 CVAC) defeated the Royals (3-7, 0-3 CVAC) behind the solid play of freshman Lotta Aaltonen and junior Temeca Spain.

 

Aaltonen led all scorers with 17 points and three rebounds, while Spain added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

 

It was a back and forth contest all game, as the Royals took a three point lead into the half, but Coker came out strong in the second half and did not allow a Queens field goal through the first 10 minutes of the second half. Queens made a late run at the Cobras, but in the end Coker came out on top.

 

For Queens, Phylicia Turner had 10 points, while Cecilia Tchangoue netted nine points and had four rebounds.

 

Coker’s next contest comes on Monday as they travel to Due West, SC, to face Erskine College at 5:30 p.m.
