CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team (8-4) shot 60 percent in the first half to take a 27-point halftime lead and cruise to a 77-43 win over Coker (2-7) Jan. 4 in Conway, S.C. Coastal used its size inside to score 38 points in the paint in winning its third straight game.

Coastal scored the first four points of the game and had a 13-7 advantage at 15:47 on a jumper from senior Vanessa Laug (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills). India Elliot cut the lead to 15-13 at 12:43 on a jumper, but Coastal then went on a 14-0 run that was capped by a layup from senior Calisha Yates (Columbus, Ind./Chattanooga State C.C.). Coastal stretched the lead to 38-18 at 2:32 on a jumper from freshman Lacey Lyons (Beverly Hills, Fla./Crystal River). The Lady Chants ended the half on an 8-0 run as Lyons hit a three with five seconds left for the 27-point lead.

Senior Alisha Dill (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill) led Coastal with 14 points and four assists in the first half. Dill was 6-of-11 from the field in the first 20 minutes. Lyons had eight points, including two three-pointers, while junior C.J. Ware (Decatur, Ga./Lakeside) had seven points and three assists. Elliot had six points for the Cobras at the half. Coastal shot 18-of-30 from the field in the first half and hit four three-pointers.

Dill opened the half with a layup 12 seconds in. Lyons then extended the lead to 31 points (55-24) on a three at 15:26. The Coastal defense held Coker to 24.2 percent from the field in the second half as the Lady Chants led by as many as 37 points for their eighth win of the year.

Dill had 19 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals in the win. Lyons hit three three-pointers and had 13 points. The third Lady Chant in double figures was freshman Lori Whitaker (Bloomington, Ind./North), who was 4-of-9 from the field and had 10 points.

Yates had eight points and tied freshman Devin Rivers (Miami, Fla./Felix Varela) for the team lead with seven rebounds. Senior Kristy Yurichak (Walton Hills, Ohio/Lakeland C.C.) and Dill had six boards, while Rivers led all players with five steals.

Coastal shot 45.3 percent from the floor and were 13-of-20 from the free-throw line. Coker shot 25.0 percent in the game and was 3-of-11 from three-point range.

Rebecca Kolbeck and Tara Nelson led Coker with eight points. Kolbeck also had seven rebounds in the game.

Coastal hosts Savannah State Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m., in Kimbel Arena. Coker's next game is on Saturday as they face off against CVAC opponent Queens Univeristy, tip-off is at 2:00 p.m.
