Coker was down by nine points going into the second half, but the Lady Cobras came out strong and fought hard, outscoring the Royals 40-30 in the second half. With the help of Queens late foul trouble and Coker’s solid free throw shooting, Coker shot 74 percent from the line for the game, the Cobras held on for the victory.
Senior Ashley White had a superb night, recording a double-double, with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Fellow senior Rachel Kolbeck also had a solid night for the Cobras, scoring 12 points and shooting 8 for 9 from the free throw line. Tara Nelson also added 11 points and eight rebounds to the Coker offensive.
The Queens University Royals were led by Phylicia Turner and Carmelita Jimenez, who each scored 12 points, while Jimenez recorded seven rebounds and Turner had four. Also helping the Royals efforts was Ciera Brown with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Coker moves to 5-14 on the year, and 5-9 in the CVAC, while the Royals drop to 2-17 overall, and 1-11 in the CVAC.
Coker travels to Belmont Abbey for their next game on Saturday, February 4, with tip-off at
