Hartsville, SC- The Converse College All-Stars came out with fire in their eyes, as they took on the Coker Cobras in women’s collegiate basketball Wednesday night. The All-Stars seemed to want revenge for the 22 point loss they took from Coker earlier this season, and tonight they turned the tables and defeated Coker 72-62. The loss drops Coker to 2-8 overall, and 1-4 in the CVAC, while Converse improves to 3-15 overall.

Both teams kept the first half close, but with three minutes remaining in the half Converse went on a seven point run and took an 11 point lead.  That lead would hold through the half giving the All-Stars a 36-25 lead going into the second half. The second half didn’t look much better for the Cobras, as Converse took a 19 point lead at the eight minute mark, with a 55-39 lead. However, within a minute three pointers, by India Elliot and Rachael Kolbeck would start Coker’s point run. With five minutes remaining Coker would score 11 unanswered points and cut the Converse lead to five with 2:45 remaining, but that would be as close as the All-Stars would let the Cobras get.

India Elliot/Faison, NC, led all Coker scorers with 17 points, while Tara Nelson/Rochester Hills, MI, added 11 points and four rebounds. Ashley White/Urbana, MD, gave the Cobras another double figure scoring night, with 10 points and five rebounds.

Leading the All-Stars was Sydney Brown with 17 points, followed by Carla Kantara who recorded a double-double, with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Also adding double digit scoring was Lauren Mueller who gave the All-Stars 13 points and seven rebounds.

Coker will return to the court on Saturday, January 14, as they travel to North Greenville College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. Converse will take the weekend off, but will return to action on Monday, January 16, against Lees-McRae College, tip-off is at 7 p.m.
