
Three Set School Records as Coker Men’s Track and Field Starts Season Strong
HICKORY, N.C. – The Coker University men’s track and field opened up their indoor season on a strong note at the L-R Polar Joe Invite on Saturday (Feb 6.), with four school records all set by newcomers.
HICKORY, N.C. – The Coker University men's track and field opened up their indoor season on a strong note at the L-R Polar Joe Invite on Saturday (Feb 6.), with four school records all set by newcomers.
Newcomers Luke Baker, Jerimil German and Mike Earley all set Coker records at the meet. Baker set the record for pole vault with a height of 3.50m, winning the event. German set the record for the 55m dash with a time of 6.71 placing second in the event. He also placed second in 200m dash with a time of 23.56. Earley set school records in two events, first with his fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 12.53m, and again with his third-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 12.18m.
Murishi Irikanda continued the success for the Cobras, winning the long jump event with a distance of 6.57m. Irikanda would come away with another win in the triple jump event with a distance of 13.09m.
Coker would go on to take first and second place in the mile run and again in the 800m, with Arat Joancio placing first at 4:45.49 and Austin Bates placing second in the mile run at 4:51.94. Bates would go on to win the 800m (2:08.55), while Joancio would place second (2:13.24) for the Cobras.
The Cobras will be back in action on Sunday, February 14, 2021 when they travel back to Hickory, N.C. for the L-R Polar Joe Invite. Live results can be found at cokercobras.com
