Coker Men's Track and Field Ready for Wake Forest OpenHARTSVILLE, S.C.- As the snow melts away and spring temperatures begin to creep into the south, the Coker College men's track and field program seeks another solid outing. On Saturday (Jan. 20) the Cobras will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to compete in their third event of the season at the Wake Forest Open. 

In their last meet on Jan. 7, the Navy and Gold showed great prominence at the JDL New Year College Kick-Off. In the men's 3000-meter race, Jacob Chebii and Luke Elliott placed fourth and fifth, finishing in the times of 9:35.85 and 9:39.29 respectively. Chebii's time moved him up to fifth all-time in the Coker record books.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Derrian Moreau brought in a fourth place finish in the time of 8.56 seconds, good for third overall in Coker history. Zakary McGriff and and Kamiam McClain also raced, finishing sixth and seventh in times of 8.77 and 8.78.

Tony McElveen Jr. Tied his own previous, and school record in the 60-meter preliminary race with a time of 6.96, but broke it in the finals, setting the new record at 6.95. McElveen also competed in the 200-meter event placing second, running a 22.90 to finish runner-up and good for third all-time in program history. McClain and Will Mosley ran alongside McElveen Jr., finishing in sixth and seventh in times of 23.82 and 23.98.

The Cobras next moved to the 400-meter race, where Sage Lilly brought in a second place finish with a time of 52.31, tied for second all-time in Coker history, while Mosely finished fourth in 53.17.

Brandon Campbell put his efforts into the shot put for the Navy and Gold, tossing a length of 36'7" placing seventh, for a third-best throw distance in program history.

In the one mile race, Brandon Mullins secured a new Coker program record, crossing the line in 4:32.86 to become the new record holder.

The Coker College men's track and field team will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. on Saturday (Jan. 20) to compete in the Wake Forest Open beginning at 9:30 a.m. Results from the event can be found by visiting www.cokercobras.com.
