Cobras Fall in the South Atlantic Conference Season Opener

Game 1

Hartsville, SC- Carson-Newman went on to take game one over Coker with a final score of 9-3 in a game that took place on March 5, 2024. Carson-Newman's offensive performance was highlighted by Matt Hughes and M. Bailey, who both had multiple RBIs in the game. Hughes contributed three RBIs, while Bailey added three RBIs as well. Additionally, K. Warder hit a home run for Carson-Newman.

On the pitching side, E. Frost, K. Bowers, and N. Ferguson combined efforts to limit Coker to only three runs. Bowers picked up the win, while Ferguson earned the save.

Cobras had two players who helped the offense get going in the game Sarah Bryant and Mya Cribbs who each contributed an RBI. 


The game took place in Hartsville, South Carolina, with a total attendance of 81 fans. The duration of the game was 1 hour and 54 minutes. Carson-Newman's victory over Coker improved their record to 8-9 overall and 1-0 in the SAC, while Coker fell to 7-11 overall and 0-1 in the SAC.

Game 2

The Coker Cobras faced off against the Carson-Newman Eagles in a high-scoring softball game on March 5, 2024. Despite a strong start from Coker, Carson-Newman ultimately came out on top with a final score of 18-11.

Coker got off to a hot start in the first inning, scoring five runs thanks to key hits from Delaney Eaves and Abbie McCants. However, Carson-Newman quickly responded with a two-run homer from Brooke Matyasovsky in the second inning.

The Eagles continued to pile on the runs, with Hayden Dye hitting a homer in the fourth inning to bring in four runs. Despite a valiant effort from Coker, including a grand slam from Delaney Eaves in the fifth inning, they couldn't keep up with Carson-Newman's offense.

The game was played at Saleeby-Stokes Field in Hartsville, S.C., and drew a crowd of 18 spectators. The duration of the game was 2 hours and 48 minutes.

Overall, it was a hard-fought battle between the two teams, but Carson-Newman's strong hitting ultimately secured them the victory. Coker will look to bounce back from this loss as they continue their season in the SAC.
