Coker Splits Doubleheader vs. FMU

The Coker University Softball Team split their series on Friday, February 9th, against Francis Marion

Game 1: Coker 8, Francis Marion 2

Coker University Softball dominated in their game against Francis Marion, winning by a score of 8-2. The game took place on February 9, 2024 at Saleeby-Stokes Field. Coker improved their record to 3-2 while Francis Marion dropped to 4-2.

Coker got off to a strong start, scoring a run in the first inning. Francis Marion responded with a run of their own in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1. However, Coker quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the second with another run.

The third inning proved to be decisive for Coker as they exploded for five runs. Gracen Chambless hit a home run to center field, driving in a run. The team took advantage of an error by Francis Marion's third baseman, allowing two more runs to score. Ariana Fair then singled up the middle, bringing in two more runs to give Coker a commanding 7-1 lead.

Francis Marion managed to score one more run in the fifth inning, but Coker responded with another run in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead to 8-2.

Coker's pitcher, Madie Andrews, had a solid performance, allowing only four hits and two runs while striking out three batters in seven innings of work. She earned the win and improved her record to 2-1.

Game 2: Francis Marion 11, Coker 1

In Game 2, Coker was able to get one run off of three hits.

The highlight of the night came when Mya Cribbs launched a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to lead off the inning. Delaney Eaves & Cheyenne Palmer also collected hits for the Cobras in Game 2.

Coker will return home on Tuesday, February 13th, as they will face Mount Olive, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00PM.
