Cobras Drop Doubleheader to Cavaliers

WISE, VA - The Coker softball team dropped both ends of a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader to UVA-Wise on Saturday (Mar. 19). The Cobras fell by an 8-0 score in five innings in game one, and fell by a 3-2 score in game two.

Chloe Pelham recorded two hits and Ariana Fair added another in the losing effort for the Cobras in game one. Jordyn Goodman went 2 ⅓ innings in the circle, taking the loss.

In game two, Coker jumped out to an early lead behind singles from Ava Jay and Chloe Pelham, before Caitlyn Wray singled up the middle to score Jay and take the 1-0 lead. The Cavaliers struck back with two runs in the second inning and another in the fifth for a 3-1 margin. Coker cut the deficit in half in the seventh behind singles from Jay and Pelham, followed by a steal of home by Jay on the throw to retire Pelham. The comeback effort would fall just short, as the Cavaliers took the 3-2 decision.

Jay and Pelham each recorded two hits, while Ariana Fair, Wray, and Kelsey Gollie each had a hit of their own. Callie Thornton went the distance in the circle to take the loss, despite only allowing three hits and three runs.

The Cobras return to the softball diamond on Wednesday (Mar. 23) when they host Queens (N.C.) in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2pm, with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com
