HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Dr. Mackenzie Draine has been named Coker University's next head softball coach, announced by Vice President of Athletics and Athletic Facilities Dr. Lynn Griffin today (Wednesday, May 20).
"I am excited that Mackenzie will be taking over the reins of the Coker softball program," said Griffin. "She has been instrumental in the development of our program and I look forward to watching her continue the success that has been built."
Draine takes the reins of the Coker softball program after the departure of Travis McCall after six seasons. Draine rejoined the Coker softball coaching staff in August of 2018 after a stint at Division I Cleveland State University. In her first season back on the Cobra bench, she helped the squad to a second consecutive NCAA Southeast Regional tournament berth. Draine originally joined the Coker staff in July of 2014.
"I would like to extend my gratitude to Dr. Griffin for giving me the opportunity to continue my coaching career at the helm of the Cobras softball program!" said Draine. "It is an exciting time at Coker and I am looking forward to working with a great group of ladies!"
Draine came to Coker after serving as the assistant softball coach at Volunteer High School in Tennessee. She helped guide her team to conference and regional titles, as well as the school's first sub state appearance since 2006.
A native of Church Hill, Tenn., Draine was a standout softball player at King University (Tenn.) from 2009-13. She helped lead the Tornado to a Conference Carolinas softball tournament championship (2012), a NCAA Southeast Regional appearance (2012) and a Conference Carolinas regular season championship (2013).
She graduated from King in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in Elementary Education. She most recently graduated with a Master's degree in College Athletic Administration from Coker in 2015 and earned her Doctorate degree in Sport and Athletic Management from Northcentral University in October 2019.
