Coker Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Coker University softball team swept Saturday's doubleheader against the North Greenville University Crusaders, by scores of 9-2 and 3-1.

Game One

The Cobras jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Anna Gluhosky drew a walk with the bases loaded. In the bottom half of the inning, the Crusaders were able to equalize the score. The game remained tied at 1-1 until the top of the eighth inning, as Christine Carver and Jaelin Griffin had great starts in the circle.

Jena Dewalt's double gave the Cobras a 2-1 lead in the eighth. A few batters later, Lauren DeWitt broke the game open with a three-run homer to left center field. Hannah Goodman and Ashley Meckley continued to build on the Coker lead with RBI hits, as the Cobras cruised to a 9-2 victory. Christine Carver allowed zero earned runs through 6.1 innings, while Jordyn Goodman came in for the final five outs, earning her third win of the season.

Game Two

After the exciting game one win, the Cobras were able to carry over that momentum into game two. Madison King hit a solo homer to give the Cobras an early lead in the second inning. In the fourth inning, King brought home Kayla Oswell on an RBI double to extend the lead to 2-0. After the Crusaders managed to score in the bottom of the fifth, the Cobras answered right back in the top of the sixth with a RBI single by Anna Gluhosky, scoring Morgan Richardson. Thanks to a great start by Isabelle Mullen, and another strong relief appearance from Jordyn Goodman, the Cobras swept the doubleheader against North Greenville. Mullen threw four scoreless innings, earning her fourth win of the season.

The Cobras will be back in action on Sunday (Mar. 1) when they host King University for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00, with live coverage available at www.cokercobras.com.
