Christine Carver Leads Cobras Past Georgia Southwestern 4-1

Columbus, Georgia – The Coker University softball team opened up play on Friday (Feb. 14) at the Cougar Classic, defeating the Georgia Southwestern State University Canes 4-1.

The Cobras entered Friday night's game with a 5-1 record, coming off a doubleheader sweep of Augusta University on Monday (Feb. 10).

With the bases loaded in the top of the second inning, Ashley Meckley cleared the bases with a three-run triple to put the Cobras up 3-0 early. In the third inning, Lauren DeWitt hit her second home run of the year to grow the Coker lead to 4-0. Ava Jay had a great night at the plate, going three for three including two doubles.

Christine Carver came into tonight's game with a 3-0 pitching record and a 1.50 ERA. In her last start, she threw a complete game and struck out seven in the victory over Georgia College on Feb. 9. Carver was dominant on the mound again tonight, throwing a complete game while striking out five hitters to lead the Cobras to a 4-1 win.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 15) when they take on the Albany State University Golden Rams in the Cougar Classic. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. with live results available at www.cokercobras.com.
