Softball Ends Season in Nine-Inning Thriller to Lees-McRae

DAHLONEGA, GA - The Coker College softball team lost a nail-biter to Lees-McRae 1-0 in nine innings on Friday (May 10). Senior Taylor Forehand pitched an absolute gem in her final game with the Navy and Gold but the offense just could not get it going as they ended their season at the NCAA Southeast Regional.

Forehand started and was credited with the loss but the stats did not tell the entire story. She put on one of the performances of the season, going eight innings and allowing just three hits and one run while striking out a career-high nine batters.

The best opportunity of the game came in the seventh inning as Brianna Strickland and Anna Gluhosky led off the inning with back-to-back singles and Allyson High loaded the bases with just one out. The Cobras could not capitalize on the opportunity and two innings later the visitors would walk-off with the win following an inside-the-park home run by Lees-McRae pitcher Kara Cunningham.

Offensively, Maria Williamson and Gluhosky led the Cobras with two hits each while Chloe Pelham, Strickland, High all recorded one hit in the game.

With the loss the Cobras' season comes to a close after a second consecutive postseason appearance and a record of 31-19 (9-10).
