Cobras Pick Up Huge Conference Sweep Over #18 Lincoln Memorial

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College softball team swept their second ranked opponent in as many weeks as they swept #18 Lincoln Memorial on Saturday (Apr. 6). The Cobras took down the Railsplitters 3-1 in the first game before taking game two 4-2.

Coker opened the first game with a run in the bottom of the first to take the lead as Maria Williamson singled to drive in Chloe Pelham. Pelham would extend the Coker lead to two in the fifth as her triple to right field drove in Alex Alverson. The Railsplitters managed to pull one back in the sixth but Anna Gluhosky knocked in Morgan Richardson to push the Coker lead back to two and finish off the visitors.

Christine Carver, the reigning South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week, continued her dominance as she gave up just two hits and one run. Carver also managed to punch out four batters over 5.1 innings before Taylor Forehand entered to pitch the final 1.2 innings. Forehand slammed the door shut on the visitors with a trio of strikeouts and just two hits as she picked up her sixth save of the season.

The Cobras found themselves ahead early once again in game two as Madison King drove in Lilli Otten for the opening run of the game. Lauren DeWitt stretched the lead to three with a two RBI double in the fifth that scored Ashley Meckley and Pelham. Gluhosky tacked on another with a double to center that plated Rebekah Addison. The Railsplitters added a pair of runs in the sixth but the Cobras managed to close strong for the 4-2 win and the sweep.

Forehand got the start after coming out of the bullpen and picked up right where she left off. She gave up just the two runs and struck out five batters over five innings of work. Isabelle Mullen picked up her first save of the year as she came on in the sixth and absolutely shut Lincoln Memorial down. Mullen gave up a pair of hits and struck out two as she closed out the win.

The Cobras will be back in action on Tuesday (Apr. 9) when they travel to Catawba for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader starting at 2:00 PM.
