HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College softball team dropped both games in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader with Newberry College on Wednesday (Apr. 3) as they fell 4-1 in game one and 5-3 in game two.

The Cobras found themselves down early as they surrendered a run in the first and two more in the top of the fifth. Madison King cut the the deficit to just two with a solo home run in the bottom half of the fifth, her third of the season. The Wolves added another in the seventh and the Cobras threatened in the bottom half but could not complete the comeback.

Ashley Meckley continued her tear at the plate as she notched a pair of hits to lead the team. Chloe Pelham and King were the other players to record hits in the loss.

Isabelle Mullen got the start as she went 4.2 innings, a pair of earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Jordyn Goodman came on in relief for 1.1 innings and Nikki Linthicum tossed the final inning of game one.

Coker would strike first in the second inning after back-to-back doubles by Lauren DeWitt and Maria Williamson to give them a one-run lead. Newberry would take their first lead of the game in the top of the sixth before the Cobras scored a pair of their own to retake the lead. The Wolves refused to go away as they plated three runs in the top of the seventh to take game two.

Williamson and Gluhosky led the Coker offense as they both recorded two hits with Williamson driving in a pair of runs and Gluhosky knocking in one. DeWitt was the other Cobra to record a hit in the contest.

Taylor Forehand got the nod and tossed 6.2 innings over two stints in the circle. Forehand was charged with three runs on four hits as she struck out four batters. Goodman saw her second action out of the bullpen as she pitched 0.1 innings.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Apr. 6) when they host #18 Lincoln Memorial for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader starting at 2:00 PM.
