Softball Splits Non-Conference Doubleheader at Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Coker College softball team split their non-conference doubleheader with Lander University on Saturday (Mar. 23), taking game one 2-1 before dropping the finale 4-0.

The Cobras surrendered the opening run in the second inning as the Bearcats stormed out to an early lead before the Coker bats came around. Chloe Pelham led off the inning with a walk before moving over to second after an Ashley Meckley single. With runners on second and third, Allyson High drove in one with a sacrifice fly before Brianna Strickland plated another after reaching on an error.

Isabelle Mullen got the start and was excellent once again, giving up just three hits and one unearned run in her four innings of work. Taylor Forehand picked up the win in relief as she tossed three perfect innings with four strikeouts.

Runs were hard to come by in game two and Lander scored once in the second and three more times in the fourth inning for the 4-0 win. Pelham led the Cobras offensively with a pair of hits while Meckley, High, and Strickland each added one hit each. Christine Carver was hit with the loss after giving up four runs and striking out four batters over four innings. Jordyn Goodman worked a pair of innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 27) when they host Wingate in South Atlantic Conference play starting at 2:00 PM.
