Cobras Remain Tenth In Down South Softball Rankings

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team (35-13, 11-5 SAC) is ranked No. 10 in the most recent Down South Softball regional rankings, the website announced today.

The regional rankings are determined by regional record, NFCA rankings and Massey Ratings as well as overall play, current win streaks and quality wins. For a full look at the rankings, click here

With four games remaining on the schedule, the Cobras have a 26-11 record against regional opponents, with a win over regionally-ranked No. 4 Limestone and a doubleheader sweep over No. 7 Carson-Newman.

The Navy and Gold are 19-5 in front of the Coker faithful at Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field and have had three separate winning streaks of five or more games, including an eight-game winning streak from Feb. 11-21.

At the plate, the Cobras rank second in RBI (243), runs scored (276), hits (374), doubles (75) and triples (11) in the South Atlantic Conference. Maria Williamson and Tayler Barcomb each rank second in the SAC with 47 RBI on the season, while Williamson ranks second with 12 home runs and Barcomb ranks third with 17 doubles.

In the circle, Coker ranks third in ERA (1.95), total strikeouts (242) and strikeouts per seven innings (4.80). Individually, Augusta Jackson, Christine Carver and Taylor Forehand rank three, four and five in the SAC in ERA, while Nikki Linthicum leads the SAC with four saves. Tabitha Allen has a 1.44 ERA in 34 innings.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Apr. 19) to host Newberry.
