Cobras Welcome League-Leading Eagles on Senior Day

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team will host the visiting Carson-Newman University Eagles on Saturday (Apr. 8) in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader. Game times are set for 1 and 3 p.m., with live stats and broadcast available at www.cokercobras.com

The Cobras (33-11, 9-3 SAC) enter the weekend winning their last three and six of the seven. Saturday's showdown will be a battle of No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the current SAC standings.

Tayler Barcomb and Maria Williamson continue to be the offensive catalyst for the Navy and Gold. Barcomb leads the SAC with 47 RBI and 17 doubles on the season. Williamson leads the SAC with 12 home runs and ranks inside the top-10 in RBI, total hits and doubles.

In the circle, Taylor Forehand and Christine Carver rank third and fifth in the SAC in ERA. Forehand has a 1.94 ERA and a 9-1 record, while Carver has a 2.03 record and 69 strikeouts in 69 innings.

The Eagles travel to Hartsville with a 32-8 record and a 9-1 record in SAC play. Abby Flessinger leads the way for Carson-Newman. She is batting .460 with 57 hits, eight home runs and 32 RBI.

Game one on Saturday (Apr. 8) will begin at 1 p.m., with the gates of Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field opening at noon. At 12:45, the four seniors on the Coker roster will be recognized. Both teams will also be wearing pink on Saturday as a part of an event for breast cancer awareness in support of University of Indianapolis head coach Melissa Frost, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2016.
