Cobras Split Doubleheader with Chowan

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday (Feb. 11) over the visiting Chowan University Hawks. The Cobras dropped game one by a score of 3-0 and then rebounded to pick up a 16-0 win in game two.

In game one, the Hawks plated all three runs in the top half of the second inning, which proved to be enough in a game dominated by solid pitching from both sides.

Offensively, Kelsi Bachmann led the Cobras by going 2-2 and fellow freshman Hannah Goodman also picked up one hit.

Taylor Forehand (2-1) was hit with the loss. Over four innings of work, Forehand gave up three earned runs. Augusta Jackson tossed three scoreless innings of relief and only surrendered one hit.

The Cobras exploded for sixteen runs in the second game, scoring five runs in the second and fourth innings and putting up six runs in the third.

Cacey Simmons led the way for the Cobras by going 2-3 with a double and four RBIs. Tayler Barcomb, Allyson High, and Hannah Goodman each had two hits while Breana Ard, Maria Williamson, and Riley Morris picked up one hit a piece.

Christine Carver picked up the win, moving to 3-0 on the season. Carver continued her dominance in the circle to start the season, scattering four hits over four innings, while striking out eight. Nikki Linthicum tossed a hitless fifth inning of relief and finished with two strikeouts.

The Cobras will be back in action on Sunday (Feb. 12) to host the visiting St. Andrews University Knights in a non-conference doubleheader. Game one is set for 1 p.m. start, with game two set for a 3 p.m. start.
