Cobras Fall to Wolves in SAC Doubleheader

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Coker College softball team dropped a pair of South Atlantic Conference road matchups to the Newberry College Wolves on Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 19). The Cobras fell in game one by a score of 4-1, then lost game two 8-0.

In game one, the Wolves plated a run in the first and second inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The Cobras cut into the lead in the top of the third inning when Riley Morris slashed a single up the middle, scoring Corrine Stiles. However, Newberry scored two more insurance runs in the fifth inning to secure the 4-1 win in the opener.

Morris led the way, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Stiles went a perfect 1-for-1 with a run scored. Mindy North went 1-for-2, while Allyson High went 1-for-3.

Augusta Jackson was hit with the loss. She scattered three earned runs on eight hits in five innings

In game two, the Wolves plated runs in the first, second and fourth inning to pick up the eventual 8-0 win.

Tayler Barcomb went 1-for-2 to lead the way for the Navy and Gold.

Tabitha Allen was hit with the loss. She gave up two earned runs on two hits.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Apr. 23) to take on the visiting Mars Hill University Lions in a pair of SAC matchups. Saturday will also be the regular season finale and senior day. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
