Cobras Drop Two Against No. 24 Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. – The Coker College softball team fell in a pair of South Atlantic Conference road matchups to the No. 24 nationally-ranked Lenoir Rhyne University Bears on Wednesday evening (Apr. 13). The Cobras dropped game one 2-0, then fell in the nightcap 5-2.

The two teams combined for just six hits in the opener, but it was a home run and a RBI double by the Bears that gave them the 2-0 win.

Riley Morris and Makayla Shore each picked a hit, with Morris belting a double.

Augusta Jackson was hit with the loss. She scattered two earned run on three hits in five innings.

In game two, the Bears struck first, plating two runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Cobras fought their way back thanks to back-to-back home runs by Ashley Gallman and Maria Williamson in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2. However, two runs in the bottom of the fourth and one more insurance run in the sixth sealed the 5-2 win for Lenoir-Rhyne in game two.

Gallman went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI, while Williamson went 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI. Morris continued her solid afternoon at the plate, notching two hits.

Taylor Forehand was tagged with the loss. She scattered no earned runs on seven hits in four innings.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Apr. 16) when they take on the visiting Brevard College Tornados in a SAC doubleheader. Game one is set for 1 p.m. start.
