Bobcats Plate Five in the Seventh to Sneak Past Cobras

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team fell to the visiting Lees-McRae College Bobcats 5-4 on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 28) in the final day of the Coker Softball Spring Tournament.

After a scoreless two and a half innings, the Coker bats came to life. A walk, hit batter and single would load the bases for junior all-conference selection Riley Morris. Morris would shine in the big spot, belting a grand slam over the center field fence to give the Cobras a 4-0 lead. After scoreless fourth, fifth and sixth innings, it was the Bobcats awakening in their final at bat. They slashed four of their five hits on the day in the final inning and plated all five of their runs, giving them the 5-4 win.

Morris led the way, going 1-for-3 with a grand slam and four RBIs. Mindy North, Maria Williamson and Corrine Stiles all went 1-for-3 as well.

Tabitha Allen was hit with the loss. She scatted five runs on four hits in six and a third innings pitched.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Mar. 5) when they travel to Dahlonega, Ga. for the 2016 Captain D's Surf and Turf Classic hosted by North Georgia.
