Cobras Split SAC Senior Day Doubleheader with Brevard
The Coker softball team secured its spot in the SAC tournament with spilt against Brevard on Sunday (Apr. 19).
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team went 1-1 in their South Atlantic Conference doubleheader against the Brevard College Tornados on Sunday (Apr. 19). The Cobras won game one 6-1, the Tornados picked up a win in game two by a score of 6-5.
In game one, seniors Tyresha Ellis, Ashlee Ellen and Katelyn Szupello led the way for the Cobras offensively. Ellis went 1-for-1 at the plate with two RBIs. Ellen also had two RBIs to go along with two runs scored and two hits. Szupello finished game one 2-for-5 at the plate with a run scored. Tayler Barcomb drove in an RBI while going 1-for-2. Jill Lewis went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
In game two, Szupello had another multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI and four stolen bases. Barcomb also went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Ashley Gallman plated an RBI while going 2-for-3 and Lewis finished game two with a run scored, an RBI and a 1-for-2 performance at the plate.
Tabitha Allen picked up the win in game one. She gave up one run on four hits in a complete game effort. Allen was also hit with the loss in game two. She gave up six runs on 13 hits in six and a third innings.
With the win, Coker clinched the No. 8 seed in the SAC tournament beginning on Thursday (Apr. 23) at Byerly Park in Hartsville.
