Coker Softball Sweeps Indians in SAC Doubleheader

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Coker College softball team took both games of their South Atlantic Conference road doubleheader against the Catawba Indians. The Cobras won game one by a score of 5-3, then turned around to take game two by a score of 9-1.

Ashlee Ellen led the charge in game one. She went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish, belted a home run in Coker's four-run fifth inning and plated three RBIs. Megan Strickland also had an RBI, while five other Cobras picked up hits in game one.

The bats remained on fire for the Navy and Yellow in game two as they scored four runs in the first and second innings to take an early 8-0 lead. This time Riley Morris was the offensive catalyst. She went 2-for-3, hit a home run and picked up five RBIs. Ellen continued her stellar performance at the dish going 3-for-4 with an RBI in game two. Tayler Barcomb also belted a home run while going 1-for-3 at the plate. Carley Bailey had the team's other RBI.

Brittany Long (5-2) got the win in game one. She went all seven innings, gave up three runs on nine hits while striking out five. Tabitha Allen (10-8) also threw a complete game. She gave up one run on five hits while fanning two batters.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Mar. 21) for a SAC doubleheader against the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters. Game one will start at 1 p.m. at Saleeby-Stokes softball field.
