Cobras Drop Season Finale to Anderson

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker softball team lost a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader to Anderson University on Friday (Apr. 18).  

Anderson scored the first two runs in game number one to take a 2-0 lead through four innings.  Coker however, narrowed the Trojan lead to just one after Ashlee Ellen drove in Katelyn Szupello to make the score 2-1.  The Cobras struggled to score in the last three innings, and Anderson would capture game one by a slight 2-1 margin.

Lauren Phillips (9-12) pitched a complete game for the Navy and Yellow, only giving up two runs on just four hits.

In game number two the bats began to heat up for Coker as they proceeded to score one run in the first, two in the second, and one more in the third to take a 4-3 lead.  The Trojans would then go on to score four runs in the fourth and tack on another in the sixth, to eventually take the game by a final score of 8-5.

Leading the offensive charge for Coker was Szupello and Carley Bailey who each tallied a double, with Szupello adding two RBI to the stat sheet.  Ashley Gallman also contributed two RBI, while Ellen added one of her own.

Logan Cox (1-7) would be marked with the loss, after giving up six runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings of work. 

With the losses, the 2014 Coker softball season comes to an end.  This years team graduated six seniors which included: Alex Cataldo, Clarrissa Suttle, Lauren Phillips, Sydney Weatherford, Stacy Burr, and Lauren Brailsford.
