Weatherford, Barcomb Homer in Coker's DH loss at Lenoir Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. – The Coker women's softball team dropped a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader series to Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday (Apr. 2), at Bears Field. 

In game number one the competition was scoreless until the bottom of the third, when the Bears scored seven runs.  Unfortunately, Coker could not answer and the scoreboard would be finalized at 7-0 in favor of LR.

Lauren Phillips (8-8) would be marked with the loss, after giving up seven runs on eight hits. 

In game number two the game was tied at 1-1 after the first inning.  The Bears would then go on to score two runs in the third, and three more in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.  Coker would close the gap by pushing three runs across in the sixth, but could not score two more runs as they fell by a final score of 6-4. 

Sydney Weatherford led Coker at the plate in game number two after going 2-for-3 with a homerun, three RBI, and a run scored.  Taylor Barcomb also joined the homerun club in game two, while tallying one RBI, while  Katelyn Szupello hit a double and scored two runs.

Tabitha Allen (4-5) was tabbed with the loss, after giving up three runs on six hits in three innings of work.

Coker will look to bounce back on Saturday (Apr. 5) as they return home to host Brevard in a SAC doubleheader.  Game number one is set for a 1:00 p.m. start time, followed by game number two and 3:00.
