HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep to Columbia College on Sunday (Feb. 16).

Columbia took a quick 3-0 lead in game one after they scored in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.  Tayler Barcomb would score the Cobras first run of the day in the sixth after Ashlee Ellen pushed her across home plate thanks to a single through the right side.  Coker however could not string together anymore runs, and the Fighting Koalas would go on to take game one by a score of 3-1.

In game two Columbia took an early lead again after scoring four runs in the first and two in the third innings.  The bats began to heat up for Coker as they proceeded to score three runs in the third to make it a 6-3 game.  After a scoreless inning in the top of the fourth for the visiting team, Tyresha Ellis would make it a one run game after smashing a two run homer over the left field fence.  However, the Fighting Koalas began to separate again after scoring six runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to finalize the score at 14-5.

Lauren Phillips (2-3) would be tacked with the loss in game one, while Tabitha Allen (1-2) would be marked with the game two loss.  Phillips went five innings giving up three runs on four hits, while Allen gave up four runs on four hits after 1.2 innings of action. 

Coker will return to the field next Saturday (Feb. 22) to host UNC Pembroke in a doubleheader.  Game number one will start at 1:00 p.m., followed by game two at 3:00.
