Cobras Fall to Trojans in Season Finale
Three runs in the bottom of the fourth would prove to be too much for the Cobras to overcome, as they fell to Mount Olive 4-2 on Sunday (Apr. 21).
BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Coker softball team fell 4-2 to Mount Olive on Sunday (Apr. 21) in the Conference Carolinas tournament.
Coker got on the board quickly in the top of the first compliments of a Bryant McLendon single that drove in the speedy Sarah Rountree from second base. The Trojans however, would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1.
The tie was then broken when Mount Olive tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. Coker would score again in the top of the fifth, but could not drive in the necessary runs as Mount Olive went on to win the game 4-2.
Logan Cox would be hit with the loss, after giving up six hits and three runs during three innings in the circle.
Rountree went 3-for-4 from the plate while scoring a run, while Sydney Weatherford was 1-for-3 on the day with one RBI and a double.
The loss eliminates the Cobras from tournament play, and ends their season with an overall record of 26-18. Coker also finished 12-8 in conference play.
